Got a weekend in Bondi? Here's exactly how a local would spend it — a relaxed, swim-eat-walk-repeat itinerary that hits the icons without feeling like a checklist. Times are a guide; the only rules are "beach early" and "book the sunset spot".
Day 1 — Settle in & get in the water
Morning
Drop your bags (see where to stay if you haven't booked) and beeline for the sand. Start with coffee and a brunch at Speedos in North Bondi — get there before 8:30am for a window seat. Full picks are in our best cafés guide.
Then: your first swim. Head to the gentler south end and stay between the red-and-yellow flags. If you've never surfed, book a mid-morning lesson with Let's Go Surfing — our beginner's surf guide covers everything first-timers need.
Afternoon
Rinse off at the Pavilion showers and grab a casual lunch a block back from the beach (cheaper, better). Spend the arvo doing very little: a towel on the sand, a dip, a soft-serve. If the weather turns, browse the books at Gertrude & Alice.
Evening
Sunset is the main event. Book the deck at The Bucket List at the Pavilion for toes-in-sand drinks and share plates as the light goes gold. Bondi's a long-lazy-dinner kind of place — no need to rush.
The single best decision you can make in Bondi: be on the sand for sunrise at least once. The beach belongs to the locals and the swimmers, and it's magic.
Day 2 — The walk & the icons
Morning
Early start. Walk to the south end for the postcard shot of Bondi Icebergs, then do the cliff-top Bondi to Bronte coastal walk (about 45 minutes one way). Reward yourself with a coffee and a swim in the Bronte Baths at the far end.
Afternoon
Walk back (or catch the 378 bus), then pick one last Bondi thing from our things to do guide — an ocean-pool swim, a beginner SUP, or just one more flat white. If you're flying out, pre-book an airport transfer so the weekend ends without stress.
Where to base yourself
- First-timers: near Campbell Parade or Hall Street — walkable to everything.
- Families: quieter North Bondi, close to the gentle end and the playground.
- Views over budget: the south end near Icebergs.
Compare them properly in where to stay in Bondi.
